Jamaican Family Life
Jamaican home-life is extremely family-oriented. The parents make the home very structered and encourage their children in academics and athletics. They try and give their children as many opportunites in their lives and want them to make something of their lives and contribute to society. Everyone in Jamaican culture comes together to raise the children; friends, family, and even neighbors. Even after the children leave the house, the parents still have huge roles in their lives. In Jamaican culture you are never too old to get advice or even be scolded by your parents.
Marriage is also a huge part of Jamaican life. When they choose a partner it usually lasts, divorce isn't a very common thing. Parents are very invovled in their kids' marriages, they help choose the spouses. Fathers watch out for their daughters and help them find a man who can support them and raise a family. The men look for a woman who can take care of a household and be able to raise children.
